Topeka Dive Center News

What a great week we spent in Cozumel. Good weather, great friends and divers, and we had Mike again as a dive Master from Dive Paradise who knows us and how we dive.

Water was a bit cool even for this time of year at 75*, so a 3 mm wet suit was needed or a polar Tec with a shirt under it.

Lots of turtles and soooo many lobster we got tired of taking their pictures. Very little current to deal with this time even though that's why we go there. It is the easiest diving anywhere once you get the DRIFT of it.

We did a total of 18 dives over the 8 days 7 nights including a beach warm up and night dive. Most of us was on NITROX and that really helped us out. We also took a couple of friends out on our day off then watched Rodney get married on the beach. Carnival lasted until Tuesday night, so we actually got some rest after it was over. Great parades.

Things in Cozumel are changing though. More Cruise Ships and higher cost for food etc. Even the ferry to the mainland was 18.00 round trip per person.

TIME TO GO DIVE

Just because we live in a black water state does not mean that we can not go someplace and Dive. As most are aware, we have many clear Lakes around the SE area of Topeka, but they are all over 4 hours away.

This makes a very early Sat. am departure time or you take Friday afternoon off just to get there. I am speaking of Table Rock, Beaver, Tanacomo, Bull Shoals, Norfolk and a few others that offer an atmosphere of underwater enjoyment with out the great expense of going to the Ocean.

Right now in the winter, you will have the best visibility of the year as no algae is growing, little run off and if there is ice cover, its even better.

Until later,

John Sanders
